Rat Royale

Slot Overview

Rat Royale is a video slot from Pragmatic Play, played on a 5×5 grid with 259 paylines. Its medium volatility keeps the pace balanced, with neither long dry spells nor a constant stream of tiny returns. The theoretical RTP is 96.52%, which sits slightly above the usual industry figure. Stakes range from €0,20 to €240,00 per spin, so the game works for modest budgets as well as higher-stakes sessions. The maximum win is set at 15,000x the bet, a ceiling that is notably high for a game with medium variance.

Slot Theme

Rat Royale takes place inside a gloomy gothic castle, where cobwebs hang from the walls and stone rat statues stand watch at the entrance. To the side of the grid, a rat king occupies his throne, with mice running over heaps of gold and treasure around him. The premium symbols are four rat soldiers, each carrying a gem in red, blue, green or purple, while the lower-paying 10 to A ranks are styled as candles. A dark, brooding soundtrack fits the castle setting and rounds off the design.

Slot Bonuses & Features

Wild Symbols

The standard Wild replaces every symbol except the Scatter, and a single reel can hold up to 3 of them. Each Wild may arrive with a random multiplier of x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x25, x50 or x100, applied to any win it helps complete. If more than one Wild contributes to the same win, their multiplier values are combined.

The Rat King Wild lands on reel 3 only and, like the standard Wild, stands in for everything apart from the Scatter. It draws from a stronger multiplier pool of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x50, x100, x200 and x500, and these values also stack with any other Wild multipliers involved in a win. The Rat King always holds one of four coloured gems, and the colour decides which special effect he triggers:

• Red Gem: When the spin produces at least one win, he expands to cover the full reel and adds +1x to his multiplier for each red-gem rat symbol visible on the grid.
• Purple Gem: He collects the multipliers from all standard Wilds on the grid and adds them to his own value.
• Green Gem: He does the reverse, adding his multiplier to every standard Wild on the grid.
• Blue Gem: He converts all blue-gem rat symbols on the grid into standard Wilds, each with a random multiplier.

Free Spins

The number of Scatters that land decides which of three Free Spins versions you get, with 3, 4 or 5 Scatters each leading to a different one. All three begin with 10 Free Spins and run on special reels, and landing 3 or more Scatters during the round awards 5 extra spins.

• Blood Ritual (3 Scatters): This version mirrors the base game, except that every Wild comes with a multiplier of x2 or higher.
• Blood Pact (4 Scatters): A Rat King Wild is fixed in the centre position of the grid for the whole round. He is given a random gem on each spin, and any multiplier value he gains is kept until the feature ends.
• Blood Lust (5 Scatters): The most rewarding version places a fully expanded Rat King Wild across the entire middle reel for the duration of the round. He also receives a random gem on every spin and retains all multiplier values added to him until the final spin.

Ante Bets

Two optional Ante Bets increase the price of each spin in return for improved access to the bonus round:

• Ante Bet 1: Costs 150% more per spin and makes Free Spins 4x more likely to trigger.
• Ante Bet 2: Costs 400% more per spin, raises the chance of triggering Free Spins, and guarantees that every round triggered is Blood Lust.

Buy Feature

For 100x the bet, you can buy direct entry to Free Spins, with the version decided by the number of Scatters that land. A 500x purchase unlocks Super Free Spins instead, which guarantees the Blood Lust version.

Conclusion

Rat Royale’s appeal rests almost entirely on its Wild system. The four gem effects give the Rat King a different role on each appearance, and the stacking multipliers mean even base game spins can produce sizeable results. The Free Spins round follows a clear hierarchy, with Blood Lust standing far above the other two versions thanks to its permanent expanded Rat King. Players who prefer steady, simple gameplay may find the mechanics demanding, but those willing to engage with them will see where the 15,000x ceiling comes from. The Ante Bets and Buy Feature add flexibility, though both raise the cost considerably.
